Difference between straight welded pipe and spiral welded pipe
Both the straight welded pipe and the spiral welded pipe are one kind of welded steel pipes, which are widely used in the national production and construction. Because of the different production processes, the straight welded pipe and the spiral welded pipe have many differences. The differences between the straight welded pipe and the spiral welded pipe are discussed in detail below.
The production process of straight welded pipe is relatively simple, and the main production processes are high frequency welding straight welded pipe and submerged arc welding straight welded pipe. The straight welded pipe has high production efficiency, low cost and rapid development.
The strength of spiral welded pipe is generally higher than that of straight welded pipe. The main production process is submerged arc welding. Spiral welded pipe can produce welded pipes with different pipe diameters with the same width of billets, and can also produce welded pipes with larger pipe diameters with narrow billets.
However, compared with the same length of straight welded pipe, the weld length increases by 30-100%, and the production speed is low. Therefore, most of the welded pipes with smaller diameter are straight seam welded, while most of the welded pipes with large diameter are spiral welded.
In the production of large-diameter straight welded pipe in the industry, T-welding technology will be used, that is, a short length of straight welded pipe will be butt welded to meet the engineering needs, and the probability of defects of t-welded straight welded pipe will be greatly increased, moreover, the welding residual stress of T-shaped weld is large, and the weld metal is usually in three-dimensional stress state, which increases the possibility of cracks.
