Haihao Group Ships A350 LF2 CL1 Elbows and A420 WPL6 Swage Nipples to Russia
Haihao Group has completed the production and shipment of a batch of forged pipe fittings for a customer in Russia. The order combines a 1-inch Class 3000 45° socket weld elbow in ASTM A350 LF2 Class 1 with a 1″ × 3/4″ eccentric swage nipple in ASTM A420 WPL6, covering two different fitting types used in demanding piping systems.
Although both products are small-bore components, the material and dimensional requirements are closely tied to the operating conditions of the pipeline. For this Russian project, the customer specified ASME B16.11 for the forged elbow and MSS SP-95 for the eccentric swage nipple, with the material grades selected for low-temperature service.
Order Details
| Product | Size | Material | Standard |
|---|---|---|---|
| 45° Socket Weld Elbow | 1″ Class 3000 | ASTM A350 LF2 Class 1 | ASME B16.11 |
| Eccentric Swage Nipple | 1″ × 3/4″, SCH XS/80, PBE | ASTM A420 WPL6 | MSS SP-95 |
The combination of A350 LF2 CL1 elbow and A420 WPL6 swage nipple reflects a typical requirement in projects where low-temperature toughness, dimensional compatibility and reliable fabrication are all important.
1-Inch Class 3000 Elbow for Low-Temperature Piping
The first item in the order is a 1-inch Class 3000 45° socket weld elbow manufactured from ASTM A350 LF2 Class 1.
This grade is commonly selected for forged components exposed to low-temperature conditions because its material specification is designed around mechanical performance and impact toughness at low temperatures. This makes it particularly relevant to oil and gas, petrochemical, energy and other process piping applications where ambient or operating temperatures can fall significantly below normal conditions.
The A350 LF2 CL1 elbow was manufactured to ASME B16.11, which covers forged fittings used with socket-welding and threaded connections. For a compact Class 3000 fitting, dimensional accuracy is important because the socket geometry directly affects fit-up, welding and the final integrity of the piping connection.
For the Russian order, Haihao Group controlled the fitting dimensions, material identification and surface condition throughout production. The finished components were checked against the specified size and pressure class before packing.

Why A350 LF2 Class 1 Is Used in Low-Temperature Service
Material selection becomes especially important when piping is installed in cold climates.
ASTM A350 LF2 Class 1 is a low-temperature carbon and low-alloy steel grade used for forged flanges and fittings. Its application is associated with services where resistance to brittle fracture is a key consideration.
This is one reason A350 LF2 CL1 elbow specifications frequently appear in piping classes for low-temperature oil and gas systems. The grade is also found in project specifications alongside other low-temperature materials and forged components.
For projects in Russia and other cold regions, engineers need to consider more than nominal pressure rating. Material toughness, heat treatment, welding procedure and inspection requirements can all influence the reliability of a small-bore fitting.
A420 WPL6 Swage Nipple for Size Transition
The second product is a 1″ × 3/4″ eccentric swage nipple, manufactured from ASTM A420 WPL6 and supplied to MSS SP-95.
Unlike a conventional butt-weld reducer, a swage nipple is commonly used to connect different pipe sizes while also providing a practical transition between piping components. The eccentric configuration allows the two connection centerlines to be offset, which can be useful where drainage, venting or pipe elevation needs to be considered during piping layout.
The specification for this order is particularly detailed:
- Large end: 1″
- Small end: 3/4″
- Wall thickness: SCH XS/80
- End configuration: PBE
- Material: ASTM A420 WPL6
- Standard: MSS SP-95
The A420 WPL6 swage nipple therefore required control of both the material grade and the dimensional transition between the two ends.
MSS SP-95 is specifically associated with swage nipples and bull plugs, making it an appropriate dimensional standard for this type of component. Engineering specifications also commonly pair A420 WPL6 with MSS SP-95 for low-temperature swage applications.
Manufacturing and Inspection at Haihao Group
Small forged fittings require accurate manufacturing because dimensional deviations become more significant as component size decreases.
During production, Haihao Group focuses on several key points:
- Verification of raw material grade and heat number
- Control of forging and heat-treatment processes
- Dimensional inspection of socket and fitting ends
- Verification of wall thickness and overall dimensions
- Visual inspection of the finished surface
- Product marking and traceability
- Final inspection against customer specifications
For the A420 WPL6 swage nipple, particular attention was given to the transition between the 1-inch and 3/4-inch ends and the specified SCH XS/80 wall configuration.
For the Class 3000 elbow, socket dimensions and overall geometry were checked to ensure that the fitting could be properly integrated into the customer’s socket-weld piping system.
Supporting Russian Piping Projects with Custom Specifications
Russian industrial projects can involve demanding combinations of low ambient temperatures, pressure requirements and project-specific material specifications. In such applications, purchasing teams often need fittings manufactured exactly to the requested ASTM and ASME/MSS standards rather than generic equivalents.
Haihao Group supplies forged and butt-weld pipe fittings in carbon steel, alloy steel and stainless steel grades for international pipeline projects. The company’s manufacturing scope includes elbows, tees, reducers, caps, couplings, swage nipples, forged outlets and flanges.
This latest shipment of A420 WPL6 swage nipple and A350 LF2 Class 1 socket weld elbows demonstrates the importance of matching each component to its applicable standard instead of treating all pipe fittings as interchangeable products.
