What is ERW, LSAW, SSAW?

The vast majority of welding methods of pipeline products can be divided into electric resistance welding (ERW), longitudinal submerged arc welding (LSAW), spiral submerged arc welding (SSAW). And LSAW can be divided into UO (UOE), RB (RBE) and JCO (JCOE) according to the molding method.

ERW steel pipes

ERW can be divided into two forms: induction welding and contact welding. Spiral coil as raw material, through prebending, continuous forming, welding, heat treatment, sizing, straightening, cutting and other processing. Short weld, it has the advantages of high dimensional accuracy, uniform thickness, surface quality, pressure advantages, etc., but the disadvantage is that it can only produce small and medium-sized caliber thin-wall tube, the weld is easy to produce gray spots, not easy to fuse groove corrosion defects. It is widely used in urban gas, crude oil transportation field.

Spiral submerged arc welding (SSAW) steel pipes

SSAW pipe is made of hot-rolled coil steel by automatic submerged arc welding at room temperature. All pipes are manufactured according to API Spec 5L, GB/T9711.1, GB/T9711.2, ASTM A252-89.These pipelines are mainly used in the oil and gas industry to transport flammable and non-flammable liquids and steel structures.

Because of its wide size range, spiral welded steel tubes are widely used in oil, natural gas, water and other flammable and non-flammable liquid transport and distribution pipelines, construction steel structures and other general purposes.

Longitudinal seam Submerged Arc Welded (LSAW) pipes

LSAW are produced in molds or molding machines using double-sided submerged arc welding and billet flaring. Product specification range is wide, weld toughness, ductility, uniformity and good density, with large diameter, wall thickness, resistance to high pressure, low temperature corrosion and other characteristics. Long distance oil and gas pipelines with high toughness and high quality are mostly large-diameter thick wall LSAW.
