Flat Face Flanges (FF)

Flat face flanges are also known as full face flanges. These flanges require gaskets with bolt holes, making the selection process more detailed. When choosing a flat face flange, it is crucial to consider not only the gasket material and its inner and outer diameters but also the position of the bolt holes.

Gasket Material Selection:

Pressure ≤ 1.6 MPa: Nitrile Rubber (DISTON N1570) is commonly used.

Pressure > 1.6 MPa: Non-Asbestos (DHC3600) or Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE, DHC6500) gaskets are recommended.

Raised Face Flanges (RF)

Raised face flanges are designed for slightly higher pressure applications compared to flat face flanges. These flanges have a raised surface around the bolt hole area, providing a better seal with the gasket under compression.

Gasket Material Selection:

Pressure ≤ 1.6 MPa: Nitrile Rubber (DISTON N1570) is suitable.

Pressure > 1.6 MPa: Non-Asbestos (DHC3600) or PTFE (DHC6500) gaskets are advisable.

Gasket Thickness and Installation

The thickness of the gasket is another critical factor. It should be selected based on the flange’s corrosion and deformation conditions, as well as the installation preload. Common thicknesses range from 1.5mm to 3mm. Choosing the right thickness ensures a secure and durable seal, preventing leaks and maintaining system integrity.
