Cladded 45° Long Radius Elbow A234 WPB With Inconel 625 For Corrosive Media Piping Systems
In corrosive environments such as offshore platforms, chemical plants or oil and gas pipelines, stainless steel elbows are a common choice due to their excellent corrosion and high temperature resistance. However, they are not the only solution. For example, the 6-inch 45° long radius elbow that Haihao Group recently provided to a customer in Singapore used a different solution. The elbow was made of ASTM A234 grade WPB carbon steel and was welded with a 3 mm thick Inconel UNS N06625 cladding layer to give it performance comparable to that of stainless steel elbows.

Cladded 45° Long Radius Elbow A234 WPB With Inconel 625
What Is Inconel 625 Cladding for elbows?
IInconel 625 cladding is a process in which a thin layer of Inconel alloy UNS N06625 is applied to the inner surface of a carbon steel elbow through welding overlay techniques. This creates a dual-metal structure: the outer body provides the strength and structural support of carbon steel, while the internal cladding offers exceptional corrosion resistance, especially in pipeline systems that transport corrosive media like acidic chemicals, hydrogen sulfide (H₂S), seawater, or other aggressive process fluids
Advantages of Cladded Carbon Steel Elbows Compared To Stainless Steel Elbows
Cost-Effective Durability
The price of carbon steel is lower than that of stainless steel such as 304 or 316. The use of carbon steel elbows for surfacing treatment greatly reduces the customer’s procurement cost.
Superior Structural Strength
The carbon steel base provides high mechanical strength and toughness, especially beneficial in high-pressure or heavy-load systems.
Customizable for Specific Media
The cladding material can be tailored (e.g., Inconel 625, Alloy 825, Hastelloy) based on the transported medium’s corrosive properties, offering greater flexibility than fixed-grade stainless steel.
Improved Weldability and Fabrication
Carbon steel is easier to cut, weld, and machine, which simplifies field installation and modification, with corrosion protection limited to where it’s actually needed. So they are often more readily available in large sizes, and cladding can be applied to meet corrosion requirements without long procurement cycles.
Applications
This cladded 45-degree elbow is ideally used in:
- Offshore oil platforms and subsea installations
- Petrochemical and refinery pipelines
- Power generation plants (especially where sour gas is present)
- Chemical processing lines
- Marine engineering systems
Where to find high quality cladding elbows?
Haihao Group has decades of experience in the production of industrial pipe fittings, supplying high-quality products to clients worldwide. To further enhance our capabilities in corrosion-resistant solutions, we maintain a strategic partnership with FNS (Nanjing) Surface Engineering Service Co., Ltd, a global leader in advanced welding and cladding technology. Unlike many standard pipe fitting manufacturers that lack the expertise or equipment for high-performance overlay cladding, Haihao combines its manufacturing excellence with FNS’s cutting-edge cladding systems to deliver superior corrosion-resistant components.
