Magnetic particle detection applicable scope and advantages and disadvantages
Magnetic particle detection is applicable to the following range:
1.It is suitable for the detection of surface and near-surface defects of ferromagnetic materials, such as cracks with extremely narrow gap between surface and near-surface and other defects difficult to be seen visually. Not suitable for detecting deep buried internal defects.
2.It is suitable for the detection of ferromagnetic materials of iron and nickel base, such as martensitic stainless steel and precipitated hardened stainless steel. It is not suitable for the detection of non-magnetic materials, such as austenitic stainless steel.
3.It is suitable for testing raw materials (such as steel billet), semi-finished products, finished products and work-pieces in service and used.
4.It is suitable for testing tube, bar, plate shape, forged steel, cast steel and welding parts.
5.It is applicable to detect defects on the workpiece surface and near surface whose extension direction is as perpendicular as possible to the direction of magnetic force line, but it is not applicable to detect defects whose Angle between the extension direction and the direction of magnetic force line is less than 20 degrees.
6.It is suitable for the detection of small defects on the surface and near surface of the workpiece, and is not suitable for the detection of shallow and wide defects.
The advantages and disadvantages of magnetic particle detection
Advantages: non – destructive, easy to operate, low cost.
Disadvantages: high requirements on the surface smoothness of the detected parts, high requirements on the technology and experience of the detection personnel, small detection range and slow detection speed.
